Competition

The Club has a well-established race training and competition programme which can cater for beginners through to national standard paddlers.

Regular training sessions are available (see ‘Club Nights’) and the Club supports paddlers to attend local, regional and national events.

In addition the Club organises events of it own based on idyllic waters at it’s Club site. Indeed the annual ‘Burton Canoe Marathon’ is well established on the national calendar.

The Club provides all equipment to support paddlers’ early stages of development. Age is not a barrier to paddling. It is more a matter of attitude and desire.

The Club has a good stock of junior sized equipment as well as suitable equipment for adults new to racing. If a young person is particularly keen to paddle the Club will do its best to acquire the correct size of equipment but storage space is not unlimited! Support for youngsters continues into their teens and beyond.

Currently the Club is able to support paddlers in marathon, sprint and wild water racing, and hopes to develop slalom racing in the not too distant future. There are several ‘Lightnings’ and ‘Wavehoppers’ to support youth paddlers in flat water and wild water racing respectively.

There are frequent visits to regional events and to the National Water Sports Centre at Nottingham.
