FACILITIES & EQUIPMENT

FACILITIES
The Club has its own Club House at Newton Road Park, Newton Road, Burton on Trent. (See location map) The Club House was built in 2006 with massive financial support from Sport England, via the British Canoe Union, as a part of the Community Club Development Programme. 2007 will be the first operational year of the new facility. It measures 12metres by 25metres and contains a large boat store (half the floor area), a club room for meetings, coach education and socials, two good sized changing rooms with showers, toilets and bag racks, a disability suite, an office and refreshment area. The building provides excellent facilities with lovely views to the river and across the 'Washlands'.

The Club House is on an excellent site within the flood plain of the river Trent, on an area known locally as the Washlands, with very easy year-round canoeing access to the river. It is on open, pleasant parkland with easy vehicle access and plenty of room for parking. The land around the Club House is suitable for a variety of canoeing based activities including camping and social events and large enough to accommodate large events such as Marathon races. The river is wide and deep enough, and in places turbulent enough, for all types of canoeing; adventurous, competitive and recreational.

The Club is situated on a bus route, close to a cycle route and within easy walking of the town centre that has all the usual facilities of a town with a population of approximately 65,000.

EQUIPMENT
There is a large number and a wide range of kayaks and canoes available for the use of members. (Equipment is not available for hire to non-members.) For each craft there are suitable paddles and spraycovers. There is a large number of buoyancy aids and an appropriate level of safety equipment available. For younger members there is a stock of appropriately sized equipment to meet their needs. Whatever the interest within canoeing there is likely to be the equipment to pursue that interest. New members are encouraged to first of all make use of the Club's equipment before deciding what they might wish to buy for themselves, should they so choose.
