CLUB NIGHTS

The Club is normally open every Thursday night from the first Thursday after Easter until the end of September. The last Thursday of September is a paddle and a winter Bar B Q! Up until end of September Club Night is 1830 hrs and latest finish approximately 2100 hrs. October to March inclusive the Club usually meets on Sunday mornings, usually from 1000 hrs to 1200 hrs

Guests and all persons interested in membership are welcome to visit the Club on a Thursday (Sunday in winter) to have a look around. Those who are already competent canoeists can paddle on payment of their attendance fee.

New members are sometimes required to attend an Induction Course. The course introduces newcomers to Club Policies and Procedures, familiarises them with the Club site and local river environment, and introduces the basic skills as necessary, so that they can feel confident enough to join in the Club Night sessions.

Each Tuesday throughout the year there is a Race Training session beginning at 1800 hrs. This is an open session and thus available to all Competition paddlers, including those from other Clubs. The only payment is the £1 attendance fee that is applicable to all.

Sunday mornings are a popular meeting time for Competition and Recreation Paddlers, especially in the winter months, when the dark evenings make paddling after 1700 hrs quite difficult, for several weeks. All paddlers usually meet at 1000 hrs either to go training on the broader reaches of the Trent upstream from the Club or to play on the moving water at Burton Weir.

During the winter months the Club hires the use of a local swimming pool on a Saturday evening. Sessions are organised in a flexible way so that members can learn and practice those techniques that they particularly wish to focus on. Some sessions are just for Youth members and some just for Adults. For the Youth members especially the Club has its own Pool Awards to encourage youngsters to learn a wide range of basic techniques useful to river canoeing. Members have the opportunity to buy into sessions on particular dates. Coaches are always in attendance to help, advise and teach.
